Comenius trip to Hungary: Pomaz and Budapest

For our 4th mobility we went to Hungary. Our partner school is situated in Pomaz near Budapest and is a school for music and drama. The Austrian group of 2 teachers and 4 pupils met at 11.30 a.m. at Vienna’s Westbahnhof. The train journey to Budapest took us 3 hours. When we arrived at Budapest-Keleti, we were welcomed by Balasz, a Hungarian teacher, and then we went to Pomaz by bus, where we met our host families. Our host-sister Juli was still at school, therefore we went home with our host-father Adam and waited for the rest of the family. When they arrived we were 7 people all together and we went for a walk to the neighbouring village. Our host family was very...

Symbols

As the theme of our project is closely related to cultural diversity, Mrs. J. White worked out a presentation of national symbols of Austria’s 8 partner countries. According to the project description each country was supposed to come up with a drawing or an image which represented the theme of everybody’s own mobility. We therefore had to include “cultural diversity” (Vienna being the ‘melting pot of nationalities’) in our image. The task, which has not yet been finished, was to incorporate the symbols into a “mural”, combining them to tell a story. The pupils’ drawings have been photographed, but will still have...

Logos

Logo workshop at BRG XIV with J. White, Art facilitator.   Four lessons of regular Art classes were used to create logos for the Comenius project. Mrs. White presented symbols of Austria in general, then European symbols, and the pupils started to combine them in order to find a common symbol. At first the pupils’ drawings were very detailed but eventually turned into simpler structures. The results were then computerized by our Arts teacher. At the presentation in Copenhagen the logo of the Viennese “Riesenrad” with the flags of the 9 partner countries substituting the carriages, was chosen as project logo, because, as one of the teachers...
